Ananya put on her sneakers, adjusted her track pants and increased the volume to max as the blasting music paused every thought that sprinted her mind, 8 km it is she murmured and ran.

Her pace slowed as she passed the regular spot around the huge park which was dark even in broad daylight.

Yes it was there as always, she saw it move again behind the bushes, this time she saw its eyes, green, big, fierce, nocturnal, and staring at her as she walked past it.

It seemed black, shapeless and ghastly, she pulled her headphones aside, an eerie silence, she looked closely, the green pair of eyes preyed on her ready for its plunge.

Just then the phone rang, she looked at the flashing screen and picked it, “It’s scary” she stammered “it’s really scary Rohan, I have started hallucinating again! I need to see the shrink!”

The Eclipse – Five sentence fiction

blood moon

He stood behind her as the Moon stands in the Earth’s shadow during an Eclipse.

She too held him close behind her shielding his timorous body.

The dark night nourished his courage to usher in, the predator looked close and ferociously plunged.

A winner was awaited in the cold inky night as the two fought mercilessly for hours under the blood Moon.

The brutally injured lion took a beating as the lioness not just saved her cub but changed history by becoming the head of the pride of lions.

The Offer – Five sentence fiction

powerful1

She had shiver run down her spine as she found Pinky lay in a pool of blood, her eyes fell on the phone that flashed a message “new role offer, call urgently!”

She had enjoyed every moment of stardom with Pinky who tasted glamour and success as a child artist at a very young age.

When depression gripped Pinky at a tender age of 14 as offers dwindled as she no longer fitted in the cute child category or was too young to play romantic roles, she stood with her hand in hand.

She wanted to stop as she picked the pair of scissors to cut her baby fat, she wanted to cajole her that offers were just a step ahead.

She, none other than Pinky’s soul, stood there helpless looking at the message, a new opportunity lying next to her dead body.

The Haunted House – Five sentence fiction

haunted

Ananya accepted Rohan’s challenge. She entered the dark haunted house alone without a torch. A red beam followed her as she took weighted steps.

She increased her pace when a white shadow followed her through the hallway.

She heard a loud shrill shriek and turn irritated, “you know what…your malls’s haunted house sucks, which way is the exit?”

“That way madam” answered the white shadow.

Leap of Faith – Five Sentence Fiction

step off

“Tell me you are with me and would not leave me?” Ananya firmly held on her sweaty hand on Rohan’s at the edge of the Mont. Bernard cliff.

“”Of course love, have I ever left you, we do this together ok.” Rohan coaxed with a sly grin.

She balanced her trembling feet and turned to face Rohan when he pushed her hard off the cliff with both his hands.

“Rohan………” Ananya’s scream became feeble and fugacious as she fell off the cliff.

After a deafening  silence the scream returned, you brat I will not spare you, as the bungee reflexed and bounced back, “yooohooo…I so love this adventure, she exclaimed.”

The Perfect Date – A fiction

Tuxedo? na! A double breasted suit would be perfect…so would that be just a casual jacket and denim. Rohan was never the one to make decisions in a go he would always be ambivalent of things when it came to Ani. It had been three years together but still he did all to impress her.

While Ananya was meticulous it wasn’t so difficult to impress her. She would see him smile and just say you look amazing Rohan and build heart felt praises till he blushed.

Rohan had taken Ani for many dates but this was the first time she had popped the question while walking hand in hand at Marine Drive on Saturday.

“Rohan…” she always paused after taking his name

“ÿeah Ani” he responded casually walking

“I wanted to ask you out on a date?” she was already blushing

Rohan stopped in his tracks turned and looked at her and beamed, paused and walked after a minute of no exchange of words he turned again and smile, “Would love to!”

Rohan scrolled his WhatsApp and checked the date and venue, Tuesday, Albert hall, 20.00. His addled brain was trying to guess, preempt on what it could be at a hall that big. He set his hair one more time, breathed on his palm to check his breath and left for Albert Hall.

Just as he parked his car another message pinged, the first hall on the right corner, 1st floor sealed with a kiss emocon. The venue was a tall medieval kind of a building with a huge entrance which opened in a big hall with a very broad staircase in the centre. He hurried to the said hall on the right first floor. It was dark as his footsteps echoed in the room. He walked to the centre of the huge hall but no sign of Ananya. He looked around as the sunset beam of summer lightly lit the room through the glass windows. The huge golden drapes fell silkily down the windows and the panelled walls shimmered in gold tapestry. He was mesmerised looking around when he hit a spotlight right in front of him.

Ananya stood there in a sensuous flowing white chiffon see through dress looking seductively at him. The corset dress had a plunging neckline showing her cleavage that had his heart thumping. Her hair left lose set shiny brown in the spotlight as her grace needed no other accessory. He absorbed her in a moment admiring her elegance. She walked on her toes as the spot light followed her and stopped just a heartbeat away from Rohan.

He managed a whispered hi under his racing heart as she placed her finger over his lips and smiled. He delicately kissed her finger and breathed deep to her lavender fragrance. She walked back just a step when the music played a romantic song. She flicked her legs getting closer and held his hand to dance. Rohan held her hand and matched her moves. Ananya’s hip swung as he lightly lifted her and she rolled under his hand hugging him from behind and swinging to the groove. Her eyes kissed him and hands caressed as she danced with him sensuously on salsa moves. Romance was personified and love twisted on the crisp turns as he held her curves every time they moved. Lost in each other she was luscious and nubile to him and he alluring and desirable.

They danced forgetting the world in each others arms till he held her close and placed her on the piano. She looked at him ravenously her back straight as his hand lazily moved on her bare back. Ananya exhaled on Rohan’s lips holding his face close and he thumb on his cheek and finger brushing his neck. She teased him gently stroking his lips barely kissing them. He closed his eyes when she moaned feeling his hands tighten around and her lips parted. He took over and gently tilted his face to kiss her. The kissed completing each other, they kissed baring it all and they kissed embracing the imperfections to make them one. They made a beautiful “US” and fitted perfectly.

edThe evening passed over a quiet dinner telling each other the little things they loved in their perfect world. Rohan loved her woman to sweep him off his feat and Ananya was the real woman who needed no weapons she was armoured enough to know what her man wanted and possessed his keys.

The Suicide Note – A Crisp Ficiton

A-Suicide-Note-photoshop-876693_1024_768

Rohan looked restless since morning. I had witnessed him all these years from the calm and fun loving next door chap to this sombre edgy one. Relationships can really change people from who they are. I always preferred him to be the prior, his jokes would be rib tickling and his smartness impressive.

I stood right there near his study as he smoked his 15th and put off the cigarette butt in the bin. His last novel had not done too well and there were no distributors for his new one. He scribbled something umpteenth time and threw the crumpled paper ball again in the bin.

He pushed himself back on the armchair and looked blankly at the slow rotating fan. I wasn’t sure if he was thinking of his failed career or his failed relationship.

Oh yes, Rohan fell for Ananya 3 years back. Ananya’s charm was a perfect match to Rohan’s intelligence. They clicked like the two hands meet at the strike of midnight clock. Relation was quicker than 2 minute noodles and they decided to marry. I was a witness to the romance like the aroma of freshly brewed coffee till the bitterness started appearing just in a year. The differences were stark, conversations turned to curt responses and fights were just a step away.

Finally he gathered the courage to pen the failed relationship on paper with the finesse of a good author. I saw it to be a hard wrenching suicide note from a failed and dejected human. He kept the paper neatly tucked under his recent novel.

The evening was mundane with no talk till dinner where Ananya picked morsels distastefully and Rohan kept swapping channels. Way past midnight while I was lazily waiting for dawn I heard a loud gun shot from the bedroom. The neighbours gathered in shock but I had preempted it seeing the suicide note earlier that evening. When the clamour settled Ananya was taken away by the police for postmortem and I saw Rohan give a sly smile under his fake tears for a plan well executed. I sat there on his study where he tirelessly tried to copy Ananya’s signature on the property papers before writing the suicide note. I was somewhere a part of the plan as he set an alarm on me for 1 am for the kill.

Śāntam {peace} – Navras 9

Yazidi

She closed her beautiful green eyes, glimpses of her father take her to the market appeared, her mom feed her home made ice cream emerged, her teenage friends walking across the garden in Sinjar collecting flowers made her smile.

Another deep breath as she pulled the trigger, peace prevailed and ended her three month ordeal. The three months of horror from her abduction by the evil heads to her being sold in the market place, the old man checking her teeth, stomach and eyes, her being snatched, shared and eaten like a piece of meat by a pack of wolves night after night in the name of what they called religion that permitted to do so.

She smiled again peacefully as she pulled the trigger one more time this time harder than before. The strong, over sized body that stole her identity, her confidence, her right to pray lay lifeless in front of her, she stamped it, kicked it and ran faster than her tender feet could.

Peace as she learnt in school was freedom from disturbance and for her peace now prevailed as she saw the border of her village like a horizon she could reach, the rescuers waiting to relieve her.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Peace is not always a positive connotation. As the last emotion of Navras, I bring forth peace in a different light. Again a non-fiction, a reality of todays’ times. Thousands of Yazidi women are taken as sex slaves by the ISIS terrorists who believe their religion permits killing men and abducting women. August 2014 saw a mass massacre of around 5000 Yazidi’s in the Iraq town of Sinjar.

I pray for people suffering and may God grant them peace always.

A big thank you to Shashank for standing by, being there patiently though restless is his synonym through the entire series. Will make up for all the lost time j. Read an equally powerful emotion on his blog here.

And a very big thank you to all my friends who provided constant motivation through reading all posts and posting comments.

Adbhutam (अद्भुतं) Amazement – 5 sentence ficiton

adbhutam

An Adbhut (Amazing) Gift

Vaman Hari Rao looked in amazement at the huge chandelier that hung sparkling diamond like reflection all over the reception, the intricately designed red carpet felt soft as feature under his rough cracked feet.

Amazement touched his every cell by the fresh scent of flowers, he had never seen such exotic decoration of purple orchids and white lilies.

His belief in humanity strengthened when the superstar kept his promise to this poor farmer of an all paid trip to Mumbai  in a five star resort in return of a 10 minute shot in his home at Kasara gaon.

“Sir your room is ready” he turned to walk with bellman as he efficiently carried his small bag, he not being used to having such luxuries.

A presidential suite was opened with an access card, he absolutely in wonder, heavy feet, resultantly walked in, “sir, wifi is enabled, refreshments are included in the room plan and….” the bell boy saw Vaman Hari unconscious on the ground.

It is a beautiful emotion feeling amazed however sometimes I feel this emotion is camouflaged a lot in recent times. More so to not come across as naive or ignorant….well for me a confession is I still feel amazed when I meet an engineer and end up floored saying wow you guys are great! I have been in IT industry for years now but even today if I see a UI transformed from  a piece of code I still feel amazed 🙂 The naive me!!

I am in India and travelling beautiful cities and clicking pictures, waiting to finish the series and write some travel posts!

Shashank is the most laziest person I have known so he needs a lot of catching up on the series….may be I need to nudge strongly in my own way now to make him write 🙂

The Chaos- Horror – 50 word fiction

bhayanak

The chaos

He stood there in the winter chill wrapping his jacket closer. Lajpatnagar was abuzz with festivals ahead, women bargaining and children running behind fireworks.

He looked around one last time and flung open his jacket. Crowd stood in horror as he pressed the detonator leaving behind painful and terrorizing sight.

” Shashank, how was the last 55 word fiction” ….pause….think….roll eyes…pause…deep breath….”ok never mind” I said. Read Shashank’s crisp and strong take on Bibhatsam here.

Bhayanakam represent horror and terror as navras 6. A difficult emotion as when a person is terrorised may not be in a state to ever narrate it exactly the way she felt then.

I have also clubbed a prompt each day’s prompt of 50 words “Winter”
